Improvements
The Beautification Committee comprised of volunteers at large are continuing their efforts to improve the grounds, golf course, and tee block areas with new plants including Azaleas, Lilies, and Hostas every year. They accomplished the Gatehouse Project in 2018 with a new roof, paint, and sign at the entrance. In 2019 several members volunteered their time and energy to improve the landscaping around some of the tees on the golf course. 2020 was a difficult year but we continue every year to be blessed with volunteers taking care of common areas and landscaping on the golf course.
The Social Committee, with the help of the association, got a Pickle Ball court installed in 2023. It is used by members and their guests. In the fall of 2020, with the help of many other volunteers at large, the committee was able to achieve their primary goal of installing a playground for kids of all ages. They installed a climbing wall for older kids, as well as swings, slides and climbing for smaller children. Fundraising activities for new projects was on hold for the entire year 2020. The committee brought back the very popular Golf Ball Drop on Labor Day weekend in 2021.
Past achievements and contributions of the social committee were buying a new refrigerator for the clubhouse kitchen, funding the restoration of electrical service to the big pavilion between the north and south lakes, and refurbishing the old pavilion east of the south lake.
The Camping Committee, has worked tirelessly making improvements in the Bathhouse/Bathrooms Building, installing sturdy new exterior doors and new toilets. They also have led the MRA Board of Directors in making major improvements to the electrical service, adding a new camper space, and making general improvements to the entire camper area. They are working with the board to improve the shoreline and take care of problem trees.
The Grounds
The Marissa Recreation Area was designed and built in the mid 1950's by local residents. It comprises two lakes, camping area, RV camping area, a residence area, picnic shelters and areas as well as a 9-hole golf course and Miniature Golf.
The South lake is the larger of the two but is limited to electric motors only. Its southeast shore features the residential area. Several attractive year-round homes have been built there as well as seasonal cabins. On the southwest shore are the camping areas and some of the picnic sites.
The 9-hole golf course occupies the west boundary of the property and wraps around to the south. This compact but challenging course is very popular and the "Pro Shop" is always a great place to relax after a round. The golf course is open to the public on a pay-per-round basis with golf cart rental available.
The lakes are home to several species of water fowl including Canadian Geese, Mallards, Wood Ducks, Herons, Cranes and even Swans during their migrating season.
The Miniature Golf Course is available for individual play or can be reserved/rented for parties.
